Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is suspending his campaign according to a campaign source confirmed to Fox News on Sunday.

Buttigieg narrowly defeated rival Bernie Sanders by delegate count in Iowa but has since suffered a string of defeats culminating in his drubbing in South Carolina on Saturday, where he finished fourth, behind billionaire Tom Steyer, as reported by Fox News.

Pete Buttigieg will reportedly give remarks from South Bend, Sunday at 8:30 E.T. following his decision to end his presidential campaign.

Known colloquially as “Mayor Pete,” Buttigieg, who’s 38, was one of the youngest Democratic candidates seeking the nomination and the first openly gay candidate to mount a major campaign for the presidency, reported NPR.

Earlier in the day, Buttigieg had spoken with NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press”, saying, “We do a lot of math on this campaign” to make campaign decisions, adding: “And a goal to make sure we defeat Donald Trump because our country can’t take 4 more years of this.”

With Pete Buttigieg’s exit from the Democratic presidential contest, only 6 candidates remain in the running: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (MN), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former Vice President Joe Biden, and Mike Bloomberg. (Continued Below)

President Trump responded on Twitter Sunday, predicting Buttigieg’s votes will go to Biden.

“Pete Buttigieg is OUT. All of his SuperTuesday votes will go to Sleepy Joe Biden. Great timing,” he wrote. “This is the REAL beginning of the Dems taking Bernie out of play – NO NOMINATION, AGAIN!” (Video Below)
