During a packed “peaceful protest” rally in Freeland, Michigan at Avflight Saginaw near the MBS International Airport on Thursday, the crowd erupted in chants of “We love you!” to the Commander in Chief. According to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, the president’s rallies are a “peaceful protest” where “Americans are exercising their First Amendment rights.”

Overwhelmed by the chants from the audience, President Trump told his supporters, “Don’t say that or I’ll start to cry”, and jokingly added, “That wouldn’t be good for my image.”

“You don’t want to see me cry,” President Trump told the crowd. “I’ll start to cry”.

On Tuesday, however, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer decried Thursday’s Trump rally in the state as “very distressing,” and implied that it would be a public health risk due to possible COVID-19 transmission.

“We have been following the science here in Michigan… yet we anticipate he will be descending on this state and perhaps encouraging people to come maskless, and I think that is very distressing,” Whitmer told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

When talking about Joe Biden’s Wednesday campaign event in Warren, Michigan, however, Whitmer praised Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s campaign visit. “We’ve got Joe Biden coming into town tomorrow. I know that they are scrupulously following the science,” she said. “They want to keep their supporters and the general public safe.” Continued Below

The crowd in Freeland, Michigan also chanted “Four more years!”

“A MASSIVE peaceful protest in Michigan tonight, waiting for President Trump to join them!” Abigail Marone, Trump 2020 campaign rapid response team member tweeted.
